Introduction

On this page

Kilim turns a folder of Markdown files into a fast static site. It is written in TypeScript, for developers who want their blog, landing page or documentation to load instantly and to stay correct as it grows.

What Kilim does

  • Zero JavaScript by default. Pages are plain HTML and CSS. A <script> that nothing asked for fails the build, and the few plugins that need one, such as search, declare it.
  • SEO checks at build time. kilim check finds missing titles and descriptions, broken links and anchors, orphan pages, images without alt and pages that grew too heavy, with the file and line to fix.
  • Typed content. Collections describe their frontmatter with a schema, and a typo in a date or a missing title stops the build with the file and line.
  • Fast output. Critical CSS inline, responsive AVIF and WebP images with their sizes, subset fonts, Open Graph images, a sitemap, feeds and Speculation Rules, without configuration.
  • A local admin. kilim dev serves an editor at /admin/ for content, blocks, media and theme settings. It edits the same files you commit and never reaches the published site.

Where to start

  1. Install Kilim and start a site from a template.
  2. Learn how content and collections work.
  3. Pick or write a theme, and add plugins such as search.
  4. Deploy the site.
